Elf Tanks | Illustrator | From Script to Screen

This is part of one of the environments that will feature at the end of my story where Jake stumbles into the 'cloning room'. Here we see two former interns that have been transformed into elves and featuring the bauble gas masks. This is only part of the room and I will be drawing more of it shortly.

Environment Design | Character Design Workshop

For this lesson we were given a random location and had to design the aspects of the room. I was given an 'Underwater Detectives Office'.

The first thing I did was brainstorm all objects/items that related to the themes of underwater and deceives. This proved a great way to help me combine the two ideas together.

Justin helped me to create a basic floor map which ultimately helped me to create the scene. I also played around with the idea that it was marine characters taking the roles so I created the shark detective and his girly octopus assistant.

Variance | Character Design Workshop

This was a great exercise which expanded on last week's lesson. This time using variance to help change our given character. I was given Homer Simpson and began playing about with the shape of his head while trying to keep some of his main features. This is a lot harder to do than I first thought as he is such an iconic character.

Then I began to play about with the shape of his body. Justin was a big help, constantly telling me to push myself further and to not be afraid of using over exaggeration to help push the changes across.

Finally, we were given a topic to base our work around. I had Gladiators. I came up with three characters and began drafting them out.
The first is our hero character. Well defined, muscular and everyone's favourite; swinging his legendary sword.

The second is a bulky and over exaggerated strong man. You can tell just by looking at him that he uses his size to his advantage with brute force.

The final character is the newbie. A bit of a dweeb in hand me down armour which is definitely too big for him.

Like for Like Storyboard | Arthur Christmas | From Script to Screen

My like for like storyboard is from the film 'Arthur Christmas' by Aardman. I chose this film to tie in with my work so that I could use this as research for 'Santa's little helper'. These 16 frames are from the start of the film.

(I will update this post later when the remaining frames are scanned)

Redrawing Classic Characters | Character Design Workshop

Our first character lesson with Justin was great! He sat with me for a while and showed me how to structure the skeleton beneath the drawings and how to help with proportions. The top 3 images are recreations of Popeye with 3 examples below that Justin drew to help me.

Eyes | Life Drawing | Draw With Jazza

I've been struggling in the Life drawing classes to get several features of the models correct, like the eyes, hands and feet. So! To help me with this, I've decided to do one of 'Draw With Jazza's' Tutorials a week!
Today I've followed his tutorial on how to draw eyes for comic and cartoon characters. This of course applies to real life drawings as well and has taught me how to proportion the eyes and what shape eye fits with the angle of the face.

Bouncing Giraffe | Animation | Flash

After my bouncing ball animation, I felt that it wasn't conclusive and had something slightly off about the piece. For the next stage, I manipulated the bouncing ball into the body of the giraffe and the smaller ball into his tail. I think this was a huge success as I still don't feel 100% confident when using Flash.

Bouncing Ball | Animation | Flash

Realised I hadn't posted this. It's my attempt at a bouncing ball. My timings are slightly off as I know that the first decent should be a lot quicker. I might retry this soon just to improve on timings and apply the squash and stretch animation principle.

Morphing Animation | Animation | Flash | Video

In animation we were given the task of creating a self-portrait which could be morphed into a food of our choice and then into an animal of our choice. I chose a burger and an otter.

Halloween Special | Life Drawing

The halloween special for life drawing was Day of the Dead. It was great fun and was definitely a challenge. I think my 20second drawings turned out the best, getting the body shape and character lines clearer with each try.
